  • The Seed Series Enriches and Entertains

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketThe Seed Series is an engaging, educational program of beautiful dance works choreographed by Sandra Organ Solis. It is the ninth annual Black History Month concert presented by Sandra Organ Dance Company. Premiering this year is Carver, a well-crafted work of dance, narrative, music, and video. All four elements combine elegantly to convey the story and significance of George Washington Carver. SODC also debuts The Seed Parables alongside a few favorites from their repertoire. The concert ends with Songs of Wonder, a tribute to Stevie Wonder so full of reverence and technical beauty, it just might bring a tear to your eye.

Winter's Not Dead Debut at Zilkha Hall

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketWinters Not Dead fulfilled Psophonia Dance Company’s promise to present a collection of emotionally-complex new works. In the company’s signature style, intricate choreography accented by sophisticated production created a sense of magic. All three of Sophia Torres’s new works were rich in dark undertones and tense moments. Timothy Johnson made an outstanding performance in Skinned, a jazzy solo that Sonia Noriega brilliantly set to Tom Wait’s guttural rendition of a Cole Porter classic. Psophonia also brought back their whimsical trademark dances Worms and Mazagines and Beatcelts.

    Dancepatheatre at Diverseworks

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketIn The Desirability of Babies: A Landscape, Sara Draper’s Dancepatheatre explores people’s feelings about wanting, or not wanting, to have babies. Through postmodern movement, Draper investigates multiple perspectives on the subject: male and female, political and social, practicality and instinct. The concert features a talented cast, surreal set, and an anthropological take on this controversial subject.
