Monica Hand’s colorguard experience began over seven years ago. In high school, her talent was recognized by instructors and Monica was solicited to begin choreographing and teaching routines to fellow students. Utilizing her winning experiences through membership in a 2002 State Champion Winterguard and a 2003 2nd place Winterguard, Monica has successfully led her own teams to place in the top three at recent state competitions. The culmination of Monica’s guard experience and passion for performance is seen through Ocular Expressions. This company was created solely by Monica and is based on the concept of a colorguard with a completely different setting and audience. Their premier piece, Urban Landscapes, entertains audiences with an entrancing soundtrack and the use of flags, rifles, sabres and other props. Monica is passionate about working with her students and the members of Ocular Expressions. This can be seen in the audience’s delight at their performances. In her “spare time” Monica is also a full-time student at Houston Baptist University.
