FKY KiDS! We had no doubt they were the dancers with
the most talent per square inch, but we left it up to
our audience to decide if they were the best. After our
audience of 1,400 people cast their votes, FLY KiDS won
the "Audience Pick Award" by a margin of four. The
announcement was made at a private cast party and the
kids were later rewarded with prizes from the company
directors Kathy Wood and Rhonda Valencia. They will be
presenting their first ever full-length concert in
December. We'll keep you posted.
Three outstanding performances earned awards that were
determined by Dance Houston's Director Andrea Cody.
Marvelous Motion won our "Artistic Achievement Award"
for making a significant advancement in the art of
dance. Revolve Dance Company received the "Dance Houston
Award" for their professionalism both onstage and off.
Finally, Second Generation Dance Company got "Best
Performance" for engaging the audience with powerful
movements and messages.

Dancers Against Cancer's Concert Benefits Families in
Need |
 |
|
Dancers Against Cancer have come a long way since
2004 when Founding Director Lisa Miller and Artistic
Director Austin Ingle put together a dance benefit for a
family member who was diagnosed with lung cancer. DAC
has grown steadily since, thanks to generous support and
donations form organizations and audiences. The mission
of the company is to raise money for various programs
benefiting cancer patients, especially children, through
the art of dance.
This year's program delivered high energy
performances at the Bayou Theatre at University of
Houston Clear Lake. This multi-disciplinary dance show
combined a variety of styles to offer something for
everyone. Joining Dancers Against Cancer were Flyboy
Dance Company, Ad Deum, The Houston Met, and Fly Kids.
The event raised thousands of dollars for cancer
patients, and it promises to be bigger, and better, next
year. Kudos to the organizers, collaborators, and
supporters.
