History

Dance Houston was founded in 2003 by Andrea Cody with the aim to raise awareness and support of dance in and around Houston while making it more accessible for the general public. We are best known for our first and signature event, Dance Houston, a city-wide dance festival featuring 12 - 18 companies in a single performance.

In the past eight years, Dance Houston has presented 20 major festivals, making us one of the leading dance organizations contributing greatly to the successful growth of the arts community. Our productions have included a city–wide dance festival, hip hop dance events, and youth showcases--all receiving acclaim from critics and patrons.

In our 2010 - 2011 season, over sixty dance companies companies were presented, over five hundred dancers performed and five thousand supporters were in attendance at our performances at the Wortham Center, the GRB Convention Center, and venues throughout Houston's suburban areas. Our “No Limits” summer camp served 80 youth with instruction by our star dancers. We also provided free dances classes at "Totally Fit!", a program for young girls and their families who are economically disadvantaged and struggling with obesity.
