Founded in 1995, Houston Metropolitan Dance Center Inc. strives to educate and revitalize a passion for dance through the finest instruction and performance. With professional and youth dance companies, as well as a strong community outreach program, METdance continues to be a leader in the vitality and diversity of Houston’s dance community. METdance Company has performed throughout the United States in dozen’s of theaters receiving high acclaim, performing works by some of the most influential and talented choreographers of our time. Helmed by founder and Executive Director Michelle Smith and Artistic Director Marlana Doyle, the company is the sister organization to the METdance Center, which opened the doors to a newly renovated facility in May 2013 in the midtown district.
Houston’s second-largest dance training space, METdance Center offers comprehensive dance training in multiple disciplines to students of all experience levels, ages 3 and up. This new state-of-the-art facility, also houses Houston MET too, a non-competitive youth training company that aims to develop the skills and styles required to execute MET’s versatile repertory to perform throughout the Houston community. On average, the youth company consists of 14 members ranging in age from 13 to 18. MET’s educational community outreach program “Swing, Jive, and Pop into Dance” explores the history of the art of dance through performance and narration, reaching thousands of children each year via in- school performances, demonstrations and field trips.
