The Queen of Swing visited the community to educate new people about swing dancing. Vintage videos and photos were on display alongside a letter from President Barack Obama that Miller had just been presented at the International Swing Dance Championships directed by Tena Morales-Armstrong. African drummer and Third Ward Community Cloth member Djely Abubakr Kouyate paid his respects and entertained Miller with stories of Harlem from over fifty years ago when they both enjoyed dancing there. Dance Houston Director Andrea Cody reminisced with Miller about their mutual friend Frankie Manning, the most prominent Lindy hop choreographer of the 1930’s. Dancers from the Houston Met, RAD Crew, West Side High School, and the Houston Swing Dance Society joined with artists from the Third Ward community to celebrate Miller’s achievements. Miller and her guests enjoyed treats by E-dub-a-licious Treats.
